Milošević declared a ceasefire with the KLA yesterday, but Rugova must sign it

BELGRADE- Belgrade announced a unilateral ceasefire yesterday, at 20:00 (18:00 GMT), and asked the president of the Kosovars, Ibrahim Rugova, to sign the peace agreement. "We ask Ibrahim Rugova, of the Albanian Kosovars, to reach a historic compromise"- said Serbian deputy prime minister Vojislav Šešelj today at a press conference in Belgrade. Parts of the agreement proposed by Belgrade envisage the withdrawal of Yugoslav forces from Kosovo, as well as the partial withdrawal of police forces. In exchange for peace, in their first televised appearance, Rugova and three senior officials of his party, the LDK, made a statement that they had nothing against continuing the talks in Rambouillet and at the UN, and condemned the KLA as terrorist. This is their first public appearance, after the Serbs had shown them on TV by force. The Yugoslav government further said that the ceasefire had been declared to save the lives of Kosovo refugees. NATO yesterday continued its wave of air strikes on Yugoslavia. The first Yugoslav attacks, since 24 March, were carried out on Tuesday and fell on the military airport of Slatina near the capital of Yugoslavia, in the scale of operations of the military air component of NATO. At the same time, experts from the American internet company InterNIC report that in a large part of the Serbian internet operators, as well as on Milošević's radio and television, the same, unintentionally, are being blocked in an unknown way, inaccessible, as a result of the attacks.[?]
